While election commission of Pakistan is meeting today to set a new date for election as most of the election records in Sindh have been destroyed in violence following Benazir’s death.
Naudero, Pakistan - December 31, 2007: Benazir Bhutto’s son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has been made the Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party after the death of Benazir Bhutto. The Bhutto’s promising to carry out the Bhutto legacy with the same zeal as Ms. Bhutto had wanted. Asif Zardari has been nominated as co-chairman and will be assisting Bilawal as he is new to the political scene of Pakistan and has still to complete his studies. Zardari is his short press conference also referred to the e-mail of late Ms. Bhutto which was released by CNN blaming Pakistan’s top brass for her killing.
Makhdoom Amin Faheem, the, active participant and the eldest PPP die hard leader has been nominated as the Prime Ministerial candidate for the forthcoming election in Pakistan.
But it’s yet to be seen whether the polls will be held as per schedule or would be postponed for some months. Election commission of Pakistan is meeting today to decide on the fate and date of elections as the record, ballot boxes and election commission of Pakistan in Sindh province have been destroyed in the violence that erupted with the news of Benazir Bhutto’s death.
What shape the country’s politics takes is yet to be seen. The cities of Pakistan still show signs of fear with most of the markets remaining closed ans there is no public transport on the roads.
