Polaroid back in business with minuscule printer Reports CaymanMama Business Reporter
2008-01-09 15:13:32 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - Business News)Miami, FL (CaymanMama-Press Release Distribution Service) - Lost in the dust of oblivion, Polaroid Corp. has now come up to make a mark again with their revived idea, to provide a handy printer specifically designed for digital cameras and cell phone images.
Like the earlier used Polaroid instant-film cameras, these printers have the best features to offer. These advanced printers do not need to have any inks; instead they employ thermal printing technology, extended by Zink Imaging Inc. A little bigger in size than a pack of cards, the sale for these 8-ounce printers has been announced by Zink and Polaroid at the International Consumer Electronics Show on Monday for around $150.
Once linked to a mobile camera via wireless Bluetooth or a USB port, it would take less than a minute to give a picture of 2*3 inches. The picture can then be peeled from its backing and applied as a sticker. The sheet that will be used for the device will cost about 40 cents for every picture and even less if purchased in bulk.
The Zink technology makes use of heat to trigger minuscule dye crystals that are embedded deep inside the paper used for pictures. The technology won great acclaim years before at the Demo conference, but Zinc doesn’t had any partners until the announcement by CES, to launch its technology into the market.
Another point of emphasis in the announcement by Zinc was its partnership in Japan to be shared with Tomy Co. However, the availability and prices were not made public.
