Ann Cooper, a renowned chef and lunch lady, has been actively involved in a campaign against junk food and fast food producers and companies, which she says gain profit by selling noxious food to the children. She believes that the food that we give our children to eat is just harmful for them; she says “We’re killing our kids with food”. According to her citation from the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention Statistics, it is probable that half of African-American and Hispanic children born in the year 2000 and one third of Caucasian children will suffer from diabetes at some time in their life, even before their graduation.

Ann Cooper is a celebrity chef, has worked for cruise ships, hotel chains, tony resorts and film festivals and has won numerous awards. She is on boards for women chefs, executive chefs and the Alumni Committee of the Culinary Institute of America. She has also written books including ‘A Women’s Place is in the Kitchen’ which describes the role of ladies in the arena of food and ‘Bitter Harvest’ which describes the sources of our food and how politics has trumped our nutritional diets. But after some time of fame, she realized that being a celebrity chef, she is able to reach up to only 10% of the country’s wealthy people. In today’s date, Cooper is the director, nutrition services, Berkeley, where she has changed the school lunch from 90% frozen foods to 90% fresh foods. Earlier, the schools of Berkeley used to distribute fruits only once a week, but now, they are served every day, along with salad.
