Sear, Roebuck & co. is facing a serious consumer fraud law suit due to misuse of customer private data. According to the law suit filed last Friday at Circuit Cook’s Cook County in Illinois, Sears web portal managemyhome.com divulges into unethical practice of portraying public information and consumer history. According to the State Consumer Fraud Act, this is an unfair practice. However, seeing the adverse situation, Sears disabled the function that portrayed about the purchase history. When contacted, a Sears spokesman declined any comment upon the lawsuit.

In the law suit, the complaint is seeking a class-action suit against Sears who have to cough up millions as a part of damage claims. The complaint said that the free distribution of sensitive database to outsiders can be used for fraudulent purposes where one can easily extract the social security numbers.

According to Jay Edelson, a KamblerEdelson LLC partner who filed the lawsuit said-”There’s so many scary situations where people could easily trick you into getting more personal information or gain access to your home for improper purposes.”

With the news of consumer fraud lawsuit that spread like wildfire, the shares of Sears Holding saw a downfall of 2.58% that fell by $2.62 for $98.80 according to NASDAQ trading. Given the nature of the lawsuit, it can tarnish the public image of Sear Roebuck & co by causing loss of popular faith among its clients for its products and services.
