Lap-Band Surgery Helped Woman Drop 10 dress Sizes
2008-01-21 13:16:22 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - Health News News)Patty Hill made a promise to herself after seeing the death of her closest friend due to obesity. She was standing near the coffin of her friend and hoped that this promise would change her life totally.
Her friend Gail was undergone a gastric bypass surgery but she died just after a week of it due to blood clot. Hill believed that this was the only way to make her stomach smaller by ending her prolong struggle with obesity and therefore she was also scheduled to go under same surgery. But after her friend’s death, she started losing hope.
“That was the end of the gastric bypass for me, at her wake I promised everyone that I would not go ahead with surgery.” Hill remembers.
5 feet 5 inches tall Hill weighing 280 pounds, was always moody, depressed and all time defensive. 47 year old Hill was more afraid that she would die if she will go ahead with the surgery leaving her two little daughters behind her.
Seeing her losing hope, her cardiologist suggested her to go for Lap-Banding another form of less invasive surgery for weight loss. Hill then researched about the procedure on the Internet and came to the conclusion that gastric band does not restrict the absorption of nutrient and required calories needed by you.
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, United States, obese people are undergoing weight loss surgery but they have to be very careful about the side effects, and handle the serious risks involved and in some cases even death, apart from weighing benefits of these surgeries.
At present, she weighs 145 pounds, and now fits completely into dress size 8 after dropping at least 10 sizes.
“I am so happy with the way I look and feel. I never want to go back to the way I looked before. It sounds very superficial, but it’s the truth,” says Hill.
