UTV sells right for Jodha Akbar - The Bollywood movie costs $ 12.5 Million

Jodha AkbarMumbai - If the sources and reports to be believed, UTV Motion Pictures has sold the right for Jodha Akbar to Reliance’s Adlabs for a huge amount of Rs.90 Crore. UTV Motion Pictures are the co-producers and presenters for Jodha Akbar.

Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan star Jodha Akbar reportedly cost around Rs.50 Crore but the director of the film, Ashutosh Gowariker said that the official budget for the movie was Rs.40 Crore.

UTV Motion Picture has been selling right for various movies under their production and finding it to be a profitable business strategy. They have kept the rights for Gowariker’s last movie Swades which didn’t earn much at the box office but was critically acclaimed through out the film circuit. They also sold the domestic rights for Rang De Basanti but retained the distribution rights for overseas market.

When Siddharth Roy Kapoor, Executive Vice-President, Marketing, Syndicate, Distribution, UTV contacted, declined to comment on the news, all he said was “No comments”.

UTV Motion Pictures have also launched their music label UTV Music with Jodha Akbar. Headed by Ronnie Screwvala, UTV has been one of the most successful production houses producing and distributing films like Goal, Blue Umbrella, Life in a Metro, The Namesake, Rang De Basanti, Khosla ka Ghosla, Swades, Parakeet and Taare Zameen Par. It also forayed in to Telugu films with Mahesh Babu starrer two movies. It also had a tie up with Fox Searchlight for producing English movies.
