10 years of NDC

According to Joan West-Dacres, the executive Director of NDC-“None of the work of the NDC over the past 10 years could have been carried out without support received from volunteers, sponsors and various agencies and the anniversary reception is therefore both a commemoration and a way of showing our appreciation.” He concluded-“We thank His Excellency the Governor for agreeing to host this event.”
NDC was established under the National Drug Council Law of 1997 by replacing the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, established in 1988. The main functions of NDC are coordinate and regulate the anti-drug efforts while improving the communication between the Government and non-government organization who deal in substance abuse. Some of the main features of NDC include rehabilitation, public education, and control of drug, law reforms, training program and data collection. Some of the other works by NDC include drug survey, legislation review, drug prevention campaigns, seminars at prisons, drug awareness drives, pilot programs, presentations in community groups and schools. NDC is a milestone in the successful implementation of NSP (National Strategic Plan).
NDC furnishes an annual report and financial statement in Legislative Assembly in order to keep both the government and the public informed about the progress made by the National Drug Council Law.
According to West-Dacres, she looks forward for continued support from the official team so that NDC is strengthened. This will help NDC in continuing its good work in an efficient way.
