Qtrax claimed to offer unlimited online music download in consonance with various recording companies. Similarly, recoding giants such as EMI Group, Universal Music Group and PLC exhorted that Qtrax did not have the licensing deals with them. However, Sony BMG Music Entertainment could not be contacted. However, on the other side, the president of Qtrax Allan Klepfisz said that the launch was withheld “for a short time”. However, he exhorted that Qtrax had the support of “rightsholders”.
Qtrax did not offer codes to its users that are useful in downloading the music; however, Qtrax says that users can use other build in features such as playing media files and surfing the Internet. From the point of view of Qtrax, it is not the kind of start they where looking in the business of free downloads as it was haunted by record licensing fee controversy. Qtrax made the foray in the music industry just after the shutdown of Napster. However, in 2002, Qtrax has to shutdown its business in order to safeguard itself form legal trouble. Well, in the latest download software, there is a legal copy protection under the digital rights management (DRM) that disables users from copying music to CDs. Qtrax software can be easily downloaded on a PC and other music players.
