Butterfield Cayman sponsors Stamp Camp
2008-02-06 15:40:52 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - Cayman Islands News)For the sponsorship of Stamp Camp, Butterfield Bank of Cayman has collaborated with the Postal Services of Cayman Islands. This stamp camp is a collaborative education program set for April, for the small children of 8 to 14 years.
The purpose of organizing this camp is to provide the basic knowledge regarding stamp collection art by the equipped teachers of Cayman Islands in both the public and private sectors, together with the utilization of stamp tools and how to take care of the collected stamps, according to a press release.
Before starting this education program, teacher will also be getting training regarding the program on hands-on activities to work with little children that includes creative and innovative use of using stamps by means of storytelling. In the afternoon session, the children or the collectors will be shown the ways of exhibiting stamps by the instructors. There will also be various pilot programs launched in several schools in which these children will make to learn the art of stamp collecting, in the other part of Stamp Camp.
Cheryl Edgecomb, an establishing member and present CEO and Executive Director of Stamp Camp USA who also serves as Youth Exhibiting Chairman for the American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors, and Janet Klug, president of the American Philatelic Society and Vice Chairman of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Postal Museum Council of Philatelists, are overseas instructors in the camp.
Postmaster General Sheena Glasgow said, “The Cayman Islands Postal Service is pleased that Butterfield Bank has signed up to sponsor Stamp Camp and help us formally launch our Youth Philately program”.
“Butterfield Bank is thrilled that the CI Postal Service is making an effort to introduce this fun and educational hobby to Cayman’s youth. Philately is a great way to introduce children to history, geography and art and it is also a fun way to make friends worldwide as stamp collecting is a global interest,” added by Butterfield Bank’s Monique Bush.
