Cops seek family of baby left behind in Queens cab
2008-02-29 15:58:47 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - World News News)New York: In a bizarre incident, a 20 years old male left a six month old girl in Queens Cab and left away the little child in daylight. According to the cab driver, Klever Sailenmar, 20 years old men took his Tel a cab from 106th Street, Northern Boulevard at Corona in 9:20 AM on Thursday with the girl child named Lourdes and asked the driver to take the cab to Manhattan. At a distance of twenty blocks, Sailenmar was asked by the man to pull over the cab so as to make a pay phone. However, the passenger left the can and disappeared while leaving behind the young child Lourdes in the cab. When the passenger did not arrive for more than 20 minutes, Sailenmar drove the cab to the nearby Ladder Co. 138 and Engine Co. 289 in Corona.
EMS and firefighters brought the baby to John Quueen’s hospital in Elmhurst where Dr. Kenneth Berry, emergency room attendant diagnosed the baby and concluded as being in “excellent condition” with no signs of trauma. He said that “She appeared to be well cared for.” The baby was dressed in pink pajamas and made an impression of sorts as the hospital staff loved the baby.
The young Lourdes is to be put with the care of Administration for Children Service. However, the genuine efforts of Sailenmar have fetched him a reward of $300 from New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers. According to Fernando Mateo, president of NY State Federation of Taxi Drivers, “Livery cab drivers can be heroes sometimes.”
