Kissinger advices US not to influence Pakistan political process

Washington: US Former Secretary of State, Mr. Henry Kissinger, in the article which was published in Washington Post and other papers in the US define the US objective of “control of nuclear weapons, counter-terrorism cooperation and resistance to Islamist radicalism”. He said, any attempt by the US to manipulate the political process in Pakistan may turn futile and that the it will be difficult for the Americans to control the internal structure of the Pakistani politics.

Amin Fahim not suitable for Prime Ministers position

Islamabad: Amin Fahim has contacts with the President. He has been meeting Musharraf time and again. He has reported to be in frequent contact with the President. These reservations have been lauded by the Pakistan Muslim League (N). The PML-N is of the view that Amin Fahim would become Musharraf’s puppet after taking the oath. Amin Fahim on the other hand has called these allegations as character assassination by PML-N. He said that his meetings before the death of Benazir Bhutto were carried out on her directives and his meeting with the President after Benazir’s assassination is also known to Asif Ali Zardari

PPP’s central executive committee should decide Prime Minstrel Candidate

Lahore: Amin Fahim reiterated that PPP’s central executive committee should decide who should be the candidate for the PM’s post and this cannot be decided by any other political party. He also said that the invitation for the meeting at Bhurban, which was held between PPP and PML-N was not delivered and the party leadership was given a wrong message.

President consults with legal experts on judge’s restoration

Islamabad: Constitutional amendments cannot be reversed by simple National Assembly resolution. This was confirmed by the legal experts during the consultation with the President of Pakistan.

Transfer of power to the new assembly soon

Islamabad: Pervaiz Musharraf has been advised by the caretaker government to call the lower house session first. This will begin the transfer of power process and will also clear the post election scenario.

Budgetary support of $300 million offered by Saudi Arabia

Islamabad: As a goodwill gesture, Saudi Arabia offered $ 300 million to Pakistan to fill the budgetary gap created due to the high rise in oil prices.

India sends dead Pakistani back home – the Pakistani prisoner killed in police custody

Lahore: The family of the deceased Pakistani who died due to torture of the Indian police, received his body through Wagha yesterday. Abdullah had arrived in India in 2005 to watch a cricket match. He was arrested in Mohali where he had lost his passport. The Indian security agencies tortured him on the pretext that he was spying. He died in police custody on Feb 12, 2007. The family found out about his death on March 04, 2008

Pakistan in drier states – Trade deficit inflates

Islamabad: The high rising oil prices have been the main reason of ballooning trade deficit, says the government. The trade deficit of Pakistan rose to $ 12.433 billion i.e.: by 39.05% as compared to last year.
