National assembly session summoned on March 17, 2008

Islamabad: Ignoring the request of the winners of Feb 18 elections for conducting the National Assembly session immediately and ascending to suggestion of the care taker Prime Minister Mohammad Mian Soomro, President Pervaiz Musharraf, has summoned the session of newly elected national assembly on the 17th of March 2008.

Lahore: 26 people including 15 FIA officials died in suicide bomb attack in Lahore. The attack was carried out on the office of FIA to prevent interrogation of the arrested militants.

Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader gets court notice by Amin Fahim

Islamabad: Hafeez Pirzada Law Associates, the lawyers of Mr. Amin Fahim has sent a courts notice to Khawaja Mohammad Asif, the MNA elect for giving a controversial interview to a local TV channel in which he had tried to defame Mr. Amin Fahim. The court’s notice demands complete withdrawal of the insulting and defamatory statement about his contacts with the President.

Pakistan inflation up by 11.2 percent

Islamabad: The inflation has reached its peak in February this year. The consumer price index has surged to 11.25 percent as compared to the similar period last year. The increase is attributed to the high cost of fuel and food prices.

Stock show a meager gains

Karachi: Amidst news of bombing and the rift over the Prime Ministers nominations, the stock market of Karachi witnessed a mixed session where the traders were seen busy in taking short term gains. The days session closed with a small gain of 31 points, taking the KSE index to 14, 921.78 points.
