Congress honors The ‘Fighting 69th’ to deploy to Afghanistan

It was reported that the ‘Fighting 69th’, a New York based regiment, was honored by the US House of Representatives yesterday, as nearly 100 of the members of the regiment are deploying to Afghanistan at the end of March.

According to Steve Israel, sponsor of the House resolution, there was never occurred shortage of heroism occurred among the Fighting 69th and the tradition continues even at present when the regiment is preparing to deploy to Afghanistan to fight against terror and defend the country.

The unit of The Fighting 69th was among the first Army unit which worked efficiently in the recovery of terrorist attack in Sept 11 and is better known for taking part in the operation, the ‘ Task Force Wolfhound’ in Iraq. Three years ago, there were total 19 members of this regiment were killed while fighting in Iraq and about more than 78 were badly injured.

Members of The Fighting 69th of New York army are a combination of the people from Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, the Bronx, as well as Long Island.

The Fighting 69th were left to Fort Bragg, N.C in January for two months training and now this is preparing to deploy to Afghanistan complete one year to get assistance in training with Afghan National Army along with Police Force. There are about 130 members will be going later this month.

Tiffany Gentile, aunt of Sgt. Theodore Gentile who is one among the unit, giving honor to past and present member of this regiment is really amazing and she is very happy to see them getting recognition finally.
