SAN FRANCISCO California (AP) — The famous online hangout, Facebook Inc., has been reported for a security lapse lately that enabled unwanted strangers to access personal pictures of members.

The loophole has been verified by the Associated Press after Byrin Ng, a computer technician of Vancouver, Canada provided them with a tip to upgrade the privacy controls of the website, which is now under question.

Ng initiated his quest to search for weaknesses in the security of the website since last week as Facebook introduced even more ways for its members of 67 million so as to restrict access of unwanted members to their personal profiles.

However, the claim for added protection soon nullified as Ng succeeded in pulling up most recent of pictures that were posted by the members on Facebook, even when they have restricted the privacy settings to only a few people who can see their photographs.

After the alert on Monday afternoon, spokeswomen for Facebook, Brandee Barker, commented that the bug was fixed within one hour by the Palo Alto-based company.

“We take privacy very seriously and continue to make enhancements to the site,” she added.

This recent lapse is again a reminder to people who share their personal information and pictures online, even when the security of their information has been claimed to be restricted to a few members.

Despite security alerts and warnings like this, people - especially young adults and teenagers continue to share their photographs and personal information online. The same kind of breach has been reported by another social network site online MySpace.com previously this year.
