For 45 years, the daily soap “General Hospital” has been dispensing heavy drama doses to the TV viewers.
Jill Farren Phelps, executive producer told the Associated Press, “You don’t get to 45 years just because you’re lucky”. On April 1st the cast and crew of General Hospital celebrated its birthday along with punch and cake on the hospital set of show at Prospect Studio of ABC.
Jane Elliot and Leslie Charleson talked about playing the feuding sister-in laws Tracy and Monica Quartermaine for around 30 years.
Elliot said, “We have such history. We have births, deaths, marriages, divorces, birthdays, birthdays and birthdays that we’ve shared. When we look at each other on camera, you sometimes can’t tell if Monica and Tracy are responding to each other or if Jane and Leslie are responding to each other. It’s not the characters but the history that’s there.”
Charleson who is playing the character of Chardiologist, continued to be on show for 31 years continously said “The two of us had a fight scene the other day, and there was a gentleman who was there to serve us papers. He informed us as we were standing there that he had done exactly the same thing 17 years ago to the two of us. You don’t get a history like that anywhere else.”
Many of the starts like Rick Springfield, Ricky Martin, John Stamos and Demi Moore got their beginning from “General Hospital” only.
