According to the reports, the number of zero-emission vehicles that were to be sold by 2014 were cut down by California regulators as the vehicles manufactured had some environmental faults. This decision may have frustrated environmentalists but with the current decision, the auto manufacturers have come to a relief.
This decision disappointed a senior vehicle analyst at the Union of Concerned Scientists, Spencer Quong, as according to him, the decision should not turned like this because cars coming on the road will be a threat to us, contributing in global warming.
However, auto manufacturers stated that their manufactured vehicles could not meet the standard of California and need more time to make environment-friendly vehicles like reasonably priced hydrogen and battery-powered cars.
According to Sara Rudy, an emissions regulatory manager at Ford Motor Co, said that by introducing this technology in consumers’ oriented market, it would be a better way to utilize advanced core technologies. Other auto manufacturers who has to obey this present rules are General Motors Corp., Honda Motor Co., Toyota Motor Corp., Nissan Motor and Chrysler LLC Co. The decision will probably affect other 12 states that had adopted the target of California for zero-emission motor vehicle.
