Washington: President Bush received a letter sent by the speaker and both sides of congress urging him to focus on fighting Al-Qaeda in Pakistan and Afghanistan and to come of Iraq.
Election commission of Pakistan to set dates for By-Election soon
Islamabad: As soon as the provincial assemblies have taken oath and started to function dates for by-elections will be announced. The spokesman of the election commission stated that the by-polls might be held in mid-May 2008.
Musharraf not to quit to keep Pakistan safe from US attack in tribal areas
Lahore: Official sources disclosed that President Pervaiz Musharraf intends to continue as the President of country. His intentions are based in the interest of Pakistan and no personal motive is involved. President believes that he has successfully held US back from attacking the tribal areas of Pakistan and his stepping back will spark a conflict and the US might attack Pakistan’s tribal areas.
PPP – MQM power sharing meeting termed fruitless
Karachi: After first 2 meetings no date was set for the third and the MQM leaders have termed the meetings fruitless as the PPP has not forwarded any power sharing formula. Pakistan Peoples Party on the other hand is waiting for Asif Zardari to return from Dubai and counting on him to end the deadlock.
Speaker and deputy speaker of Sindh Assembly elected un-opposed
Karachi: Nisar Khoro was elected as the speaker and Shahla Raza as the deputy speaker of the Sindh National Assembly. Both are Pakistan Peoples Party candidates and have been elected un opposed.
