Get ready for the new episode of Night of Too Many Stars
2008-04-14 14:24:50 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - Education News News)New York: In order to raise money for autism education, many noted comedians are coming together to raise money for autism education this weekend. The show is “Night of Too Many Stars: An Overbooked Benefit for Autism Education.”
According to Jon Stewart, who will be donning the role of the host said, “If we can convince people we’re just kidding, maybe they think they’re giving us fake money.”
This two hour live show will be broadcasted on Sunday at 8:00 PM that will raise money for education programs and schools for autistic adults and children. Part of the money will be given to Autism Speaks-an advocacy group. It is estimated that the last “Night of Too Many Stars”, that took place in October 2006 raised more than $2.6 million.
Both the 2006 and 2008 shows have been spearheaded by Robert Simgel, who has been popular for his comic role of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. Smigel’s own son Daniel is an autistic and it was with the efforts of Smigel who was successful in drawing the best of comedians such as Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Adam Sandler, Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Conan O’Brien, Amy Poehler along with many more stand up comedians who will be performing live at New York’s Beacon Theater.
According to Smigel, “We want to be funny enough that they laugh, but not so funny that they don’t think it’s real. We try to walk that line carefully. Yes, we really want people to call in and give real money and not ironically funny money.”
