Los Angeles, California (AP): CNN reported that Jeff Daniels and Marlee Matlin are playing the role of a couple in their upcoming Hallmark Hall of Fame tele-film “Sweet Nothing in My Ear” in which their child loses his ability to hear. The role of the son has been played by Noah Valencia. Jeff Daniels who had never used sign language in his life before says “Every finger has to be in the right place.”

In the film, the parents argue upon whether they should undergo a cochlear implant surgery on their son, the father presses for it while the mother rejects the idea. The script has been written by Stephen Sachs and the production consultant is Linda Bove. “When I read the script I said, ‘I could blow this, I could just completely fail miserably,’ ” says Daniels “You’ve got these emotional scenes and yet it’s like you’re also juggling three peaches.”

The film was also a challenge for Marlee Matlin, as she never played the role of a character that used the American Sign Language, which is quite different from the signed or spoken English. “I’m constantly making sure with Linda, ‘Is this right, does this look good’ because I want it to be authentic,” says Matlin. “I’ll have a very tough crowd watching me.”
