Detroit (AP): CNN reported that with the increase in the gas prices, a large number of people are deserting SUVs and picking up smaller cars and crossovers. Scott Piechocinski, who recently went out to search for a car that can replace his son’s old vehicle says, “Fuel is money, you have to be realistic.” As a result, there has been a drop in the sales of SUVs by 28% in the 1st quarter of 2008 while sales of sub-compact cars rose 32%. Frugal 4-cylinder engines that were once loathed by the American for their lack of power are being sold out in record numbers.

The owners of SUVs are facing a problem to sell out their used cars, because the dealers are not willing to buy the big vehicles as they are not getting any buyers for them. George Pipas, the top sales analyst of Ford says “Gas prices are important because they’ve accelerated these shifts, but the shifts were going to happen anyway,” “SUVs were not going to roam the Earth in this decade as they did in the 90s.” Menicocci, a resident who replaced his Chevrolet Tahoe with a Kia Spectra said ,”I was wasting $30 a day compared to $10 a day.”
