Fatigue is more that being tired

CNN reported that millions of Americans have a common problem of fatigue. Among 20 to 30 percent of them are seeking counsel from their physicians.
A 62-year old taxi driver of Atlanta, Georgia, Stephen Belcher, also suffers from the same problem since he drives taxi for 12 hours a day, seven days a week for his living. He says, “I worked seven days a week, 12 hours a day normally. I just thought I was tired and maybe if I got a good night’s sleep I’d feel better.”
Susmita Parashar, a specialist in internal medicine at the Emory School of Medicine in Atlanta, said that most people know the reason behind their tiredness and this goes away when they have adequate rest or sleep. She further says, “Fatigue on the other hand, is a persistent daily lack of energy that impairs your ability to function normally.”
Belcher said that sometimes this feeling burn extremely and many a times when he moves to a shop after parking his car, he would had to sit down at the front door of the shop to rest before he started shopping.
Fatigue is an important marker which should not be ignored by the patients as well as doctor according to Parashar. She also said that fatigue causes due to various other reasons such as anemia, diabetes, insomnia, under active thyroid, chronic pain, liver, kidney, heart disease and depression.
