Los Angeles, California: If your image of superhero is that of a brave, polished and upright individual, get ready for a new change. The new superhero is a recluse who has intellectual and egoistical issues. Some might be lonesome and have alcohol issues. Usually, it is seen that superheros have their own ‘weaknesses’ that made them relatable to normal human beings.

According to Stan Lee, the popular creator of the Spider Man, Hulk, Fantastic Four and Iron Man, “If you can have a good guy who’s got hang-ups and flaws and failings, he’s more interesting because he not only has to defeat the villain, but he has to defeat and conquer his own flaws and inabilities.” He continued, “It rounds him out and makes the character empathetic.”

According to Jon Favreau, the director of “Iron Man”, flawed heroes are the sign of present times. He stated, “Complicated times demand for escapist entertainment. These characters are facing the same types of problems we are. They’re a proxy for us.”

Iron Man, which opens Friday, stars Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark who is a womanizer, heavy drinker and a pompous man who gets his superpowers from his suit that he created from a scratch. Without it, Tony Stark is just a normal guy.
