Cambridge, Massachusetts: CNN reported that a new standard for celebrities has been set by the Internet. With the help of a few clicks of a mouse, the Internet has created micro-celebrities who may not be known to thousands of people but only to a very small group of Internet users.

Some of these micro-celebrities include Leslie Hall, Jay Maynard, Drew Curtis, Kyle MacDonald and Leeroy Jenkins. Most of the people may not have heard about these people, but some have and that is all that matters. This is the feature which makes them different from famed celebrities like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.

Fame celebrities get focused in magazines and television shows but micro celebrities become more intimate with the daily life of people as they are able to create a more personal connection with their fans. With distribution of Internet circulated photographs, videos and catchphrases, sometimes the web content becomes more famous than the actual people behind it.

One example is a web site www.icanhascheezburger.com which receives millions of views every day. The clicks of the mouse determine what will become famous and what goes away into obscurity and the most sure way to get huge traffic is when it is features in aggregators like Fark, Slashdot, Reddit or Digg.
