Greensburg, Kansas: CNN reported that it has been a year since a tornado ruined over 90% of Greensburg, Kansas on May 4, 2007, and there still are piles of rubble and bricks lying on the streets of the town.

The rebuilding process of the city is not only re-inventing Greensburg but also providing it a model of ‘green’ building at every place. The concept of the plan is that if the city has to be rebuilt in any case, then it is better to build a city that can set a global example of energy efficiency, creativity and conservation. The project is known as the Greensburg GreenTown. The US Green Building Council established a system of rating for the efficient buildings known as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

The inhabitants of the city appreciate the non-political approach to encourage efficiency of energy of the city. The major goal of the project is to set a model in energy efficiency for the world. In addition to prevent the pre-tornado businesses from leaving the city, the project also aims at opening a bio-diesel facility to attract green trade also.

One of the long-terms goals of the project is to have 100% renewable energy and the greatest contribution for this will probably come from the large wind turbines.
