Electric Tesla Roadster - Wave of the Future
2008-05-05 14:25:40 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - Technology News)Los Angeles, California: The Associated Press reported that the 2-seat Tesla Roadster is a car equipped with an all-electric engine battery powered by lithium ion. When the users give the vehicle a press of the gas, the engine does not give out sparks but emits a powerful humming sound much like a jet craft taking off.
Jeremy Snyder, the head of client services for the Tesla says, “I call it a turbine sound. Because it’s an electric motor, it’s got 100 percent torque all the time. So it just pulls you like when you’re taking off in an airplane.” The Roadster has sleek lines such as a Porsche or a Ferrari and a sticker price of $109,000. The first Tesla store will open next week near California University in Los Angeles.
“Because it’s Hollywood and glamorous, this is the flagship store,” Snyder said. The car can go from 0-60 mph in 4 seconds and can top out at 125 mph. It can go about 225 miles in one charge and its battery be full recharged in only three and a half hours. The body of the car is made up of materials of carbon fiber and the officials of Tesla have confirmed that the vehicle has passed all the safety tests required. They also say that the battery will last about 100,000 driving miles.
