According to new research, over a quarter of all Americans suffer from migraines and the condition costs around $60 million every year due to low productivity and the frequency of pain that people suffer largely depends upon their paychecks. According to the study, the households that make less than $30,000 per year have to spend approximately 20% of their life in pain, while the percentage for those people who earn more than $100,000 is even less than 8%.

The study also showed that students who have finished their high school experience twice the pain as compared to those who graduated from a college. Although participated accepted that interacting with their friend or spouse helped in lowering their pain, but those people who suffer from chronic pain tend to socialize less. They also spent about 25% of their day watching TV as compared to 16% in case of an average person. One feature that pain does not seem to differentiate is gender of the person.

According to the study, both men and women nearly equally have pain. People experience more pain as they get older but as a surprise, the pain tends to table down as the person reaches the age of 45 to 75 years. “Maybe people reach a point in their career where they move up the ladder into a desk job,” says Krueger, the author of the study. “Or maybe they’ve just learned how to cope with the pain.”
