By-election postponement spark criticism

Islamabad: Election commission of Tuesday announced postponement of by-election on grounds of bad law and order situation upon request of the NWFP. The decision is said to have a backing of advisor to the Prime Minister, Rehman Malik. The political parties have slated the decision accusing the President for this act.

Hoti says Rehman Malik requested NWFP to accept delay in polls

Peshawar: Delay in bi-elections on instruction of Rehman Malik has raised eyebrows on the sincerity of the PPP led government. The Chief Minister of NWFP categorically said that Rehman Malik had confirmed that other provinces have agreed for the delay in the bi-polls and NWFP should also forward its request on the grounds of security reasons, although the fact is that law in order situation in NWFP has improved.

Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim, Constitutional expert, resigns from legal committee

Islamabad: Decision of the constitutional expert, Mr. Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim to resign from the committee that is deciding the fate of deposed judges came as a surprise.

US back Pakistan’s policy of negotiations with the militants

Washington: US supports Pakistan on its policy of finding peaceful solutions to end terrorism in the tribal areas of the country. The US deputy secretary of State, John Negroponte also said that the US will not allow any attacks on US and UN forces from the troubled regions.

KSE-100 index takes a further dip

Karachi: The decline in the KSE-100 index was registered yesterday. The index fell by 284 points leaving the index at 14,673 points at the end of the days trading session.
