Is American Idol losing its luster?

New York: With the seventh consecutive season of American Idol, it seems the talent show may be losing its charm. According to 14-year old Katherine Bohr, a freshman from Brookline High School in Massachusetts, “Last year I was really into it, and the year before that.” She continued, “This year in the beginning I was, but then track started up and I have a lot of homework. It’s two hours long and I don’t have the time.”

Earlier she watched the show regularly with her friends but new she records the show and sees it occasionally. Statistically speaking, it is seen that the viewer ship of American Idol is facing a decline among youngsters who decide the trend of the latest music and buy the same prepared by the winner of American Idol.

If you think that American Idol is past its prime, think twice over as American Idol is the still the biggest item on TV. It is the same reason that Fox is ending its TV season late this month for the first time in the channel’s history.

According to Nielsen Media Research, the average viewer ship of American Idol is more than 27 million this year in comparison to more than 30 million viewers last year. One of the reasons can be the writers strike.
