San Francisco, California: The Associated Press reported that rocker Neil Young revealed his plans of releasing his entire music archive on Blu-ray discs on Tuesday in a conference of Sun Microsystems Inc. held in San Francisco. This move is a sign that the capability of the discs are building mass appeal among movie studios as well as musicians.

Blu-Ray discs are able to store much more than DVDs, can be updated easily over the Internet and can offer superior sound and picture quality. The Java Technology used in the discs give them interactive menus and an ability to accept regular updates over the Internet. Young announced that his archives are going to be released in a chronological order and will include some of previously unreleased videos, songs, hand-written manuscripts and some other memorabilia.

Fans can download additional content like photos, songs and tour information to the Blu-ray discs directly as soon as the content is available. In February, Toshiba Corp. also announced that it is no longer going to produce HD DVD players. Other musical artists like Destiny’s Child and Bruce Springsteen released their concert videos on these discs. The technology also allows the users to browse through the archive material while listening to the high-resolution audio songs.
