Tel Aviv, Israel: CNN reported that apart from the textile industry, Israel is also focusing on iPhones. The Z-Tov Ltd. is a store that sells the latest mobile phone models such as Philips, Samsung and Motorola, and also 8 GB and 16 GB models of popular iPhones. However, the prices of these techno-savvy phones are relatively high as the store sells an 8 GB iPhone for around $753 while its price in the US market is only $399. The Z-Tov Ltd store clerk says that the store has to pay a 50% tax for importing these iPhones from abroad.

Despite their high prices, the popularity of iPhones is not hindered in Israel and they continue to appeal to young people. Apple is an iPhone manufacturing company which has limited its market to US, UK, France and Germany. It has yet not made its official presence in Israel.

iPhones have made way through the customs in an official as well as unofficial manner, the consumers purchase them from other country for their friends or acquaintances and resell them in the grey market. But before being able to work on the local network, the iPhone needs to be unlocked so that it can be reprogrammed to work on a network carrier that is not affiliated to Apple.

At Z-Tov, iPhone unlocking is a big business and the services of Arik Steinman are highly demanded. He is a Russian immigrant and for US $30, he will unlock the iPhone in nearly 20 minutes.
