Weight Loss at Fifty
2008-05-12 14:33:45 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - Health News News)Port Charlotte, Florida (CaymanMama.com) — Barbara Aldrich has been an overweight ever since her childhood. Aldrich, standing tall at five feet eleven inches, admits “I am a big girl.” She continued that she always had such body structure. After the birth of her two sons following a divorce in year 1988, she stopped taking care of herself and stopped exercising. Ten years down the line, she weighed in at 198 pounds. She said, “I’ve always had a good mind-set; I’ve always been a happy, bubbly person. I’ve never been depressed or ate because I was depressed. I just loved to eat!”
Her love for eating out and enjoying her favorites such as breads, pasta, hamburgers and snacks led her to size 22 by her fiftieth birthday where her weight peaked was 255 pounds. Soon, the weight started taking a physical toll on Aldrich and she felt as if she was sapped of all energy in her legs and knees.
A visit to the doctor made her aware of her rising heath issues and her doctor told her that she was a borderline diabetic. Immediately, Aldrich became determined to fight her weight blues. She said, “That’s when I decided, I don’t want to give myself injections for the rest of my life,” said Aldrich, whose mother died of heart disease. I don’t want to be in my 70s and 80s and not be able to get around.” Aldrich vowed that she is never going to be a burden to her family members and devised a strict diet program and followed it religiously.
