New York City, New York (CaymanMama.com) — The congressional committee in New York heard the academics and civil right members on Monday who supported the Sean Bell case and demanded a substantial overhaul of the New York police department to end forced deaths countrywide.

The chair of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. John Conyers said, “This is not a New York matter anymore — it is international.”

The committee has also recommended for some necessary modifications in polices in training and demanded a lessening in policies and funding regarding the occurrences of racial profiling utilizing unnecessary force by them. The committee has influenced federal funding of New York Police Department.

Identical to several other cases, the case of Sean Bell who shot dead by NYC police has again come into a question for police conduct.

Rev. Al Sharpton lead the committee and criticized Ray Kelly, police commissioner for not responding to the invitation forum. Sharpton stated on Monday, “They don’t take you seriously. They believe we’ll have a forum that you’ll go back to Washington and nothing will happen.”

The politicians, community leaders and experts, including funding community-based boards that have authority to hire or fire police have recommended policing reforms to create a permanent federal funding and to examine police misconduct. They have also addressed law enforcement agencies for the police misconduct.

Conyers said that the case will be reviewed after gathering all the testimony including public hearing to work out for some solution in Washington. He further said, “We have a very complex situation. We have to come up with a better way of policing.”
