Washington (CaymanMama.com) — Now, getting your kids to remember about his/her medicine is just a SMS away. Ohio doctors have devised a way of sending SMS messages (also known as text messages) to teens so as to take care of their chronic illness and diseases such as diabetes, kidney disease and asthma. Due to the fact that these heath complications can arise without a prior symptom, doctors have devised a way to tackle the habit of adolescent of skipping their routine medication.

It is found that parents are becoming more careful with their children of this age as teenage years bring rebellion and angst where one finds themselves different from one’s friends due to special therapy or medication.

According to Dr. Marva Moxey-Mims, who specializes in kidney ailments at the National Institute of Health, “It’s a time of so much change in these kids’ lives, it’s very difficult when you’ve got a life-threatening illness to say, ‘Let them make their mistakes.’”

There is database that shows chronically ill adolescent kids do not follow their medication. However, the statistics that are available with NIH’s National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases is alarming.

The records show that only 30% adolescents take medication to stop asthma attacks. However, the concept of reminding the young patients about their asthma and other medication dose is doing wonders as it is helping them in getting their dose on time.
