Queens cops caught submitting fraudulent forms
2008-05-17 18:27:32 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - News)Queens, New York (CaymanMama.com) — CNN reported that according to New York police sources, two rookie cops in Queens are being investigated for the scam which involves over-time pays and bogus summonses.
The cops were assigned to the 113th Precinct and this spring, they wrote approximately 40 seat belt and red light summonses in a single tour, a number which is quite difficult to arrive at. After a few days, a sergeant noted that the cops had submitted a fraudulent over-time paperwork, as they had claimed in it that they had been on a full over-time tour while they had actually worked even less than a 3rd of the tour.
The sources said that the officers may have written the summonses on a regular tour while they had tried to show that they had written them during over-time work, and the main thing to notice is that they were also responding to 911 calls at the same time. Yet, the departmental charges are not filed against the cops as they have been investigated by the Internal Affairs which includes reviewing of the summons covering parts of St. Albans, South Jamaica, Springfield Gardens and Hollis.
A spokesperson for the New York Department of Police confirmed that the officers have submitted a slip of over-time for a patrol duty tour that they did not perform. The lawyer for the cops did not comment.
