Jordanian flagship release by Somali Pirates

Mogadishu (Reuters): The Jordanian flag ship “Victoria” belonging to UAE company carrying humanitarian aid of sugar from Denmark and headed to Mogadishu was taken over by Somali pirates. The ship was later released by the pirates and is not headed towards the destination to discharge the cargo.

Saudi Arabia announces aid of $500 million to UN food fund

United Nations: Saudi Arabia, in response to the United Nations call for aid for their International food aid program announced US$500 million in aid. Ban Ki Moon, the Secretary General of the United Nation welcomed the generous aid from the Kingdom and said that this will service the needs of millions of poor people across the globe.

Israel’s air force plane intercept Tony Blair’s private plane

Jerusalem (AP): Israeli air force jet intercepted and unidentified airplane which did not respond the call for identification from the radio tower calls. Two fighter jets intercepted the plane only to find out that the plane was taking its passenger Tony Blair from the World Economic Forum summit in Sinai, Egypt to West Bank City Bethlehem to attend and investment conference.

Conservatives take over 20 years of seat from labor party in by-elections

London (AFP): The conservative won over a seat which was held by the labor party for the past 20 years. This marked another defeat for Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

US audit shows that $8 billion paid to Iraq misspent

New York: Accounts audit of $8 billion paid by US to Iraq proves big irregularities. The expenditure fails to comply with the basic federal laws and regulations and in some cases even the basic invoices are missing.
