Evil in Disguise: Aid workers abuse children

Dallas, Texas (Caymanmama.com) –In a world of hatred, malice and souls who are blind to morality, one would hope that the good guys will always fight the bad guys to protect the meek in the fervor of justice, equality, and common wealth for good to triumph over evil and prevail. Good guys like the Save the Children charity provide clothing, food, necessities, and healthy lives for children all over the world. Recently, the UK based charity discovered that some of the United Nation peace keepers and Humanitarian aid workers have been abusing children in southern Sudan and Haiti.

It seems that the good guys were not what they appeared to be. Some peace keepers have been abusing children by using their necessities as leverage for sex. In a report released on Tuesday, the charity stated that there were several misconducts committed by the peace keepers and aid workers such as child prostitution, trafficking of children for sex, sexual assault, pornography and rape. Although these horrible events were discovered recently, it is suspected that such atrocities have occurred to thousands of other children.

Other children that were interviewed by the charity said they did not tell authorities because they were afraid that they would put themselves in more danger or that the charity itself would cease to provide aid for them. In order to prevent future similar instances, Save the Children has beckoned the UN for help to have a “global watchdog” and a way to defeat such events at a local level so that such problems won’t have the chance to escalate in silence from the charity. In the past year the agency has fired three workers for sexual relations with seventeen year old girls. The agency expressed that although the workers did not commit illegal actions, it was sufficient reason for their dismissal. Hopefully with better mechanisms at the local level, Save the Children and other charities will continue to bring relief to children in distress through the future prevention of gross injustices.
