SoHo security put in question
2008-05-29 15:13:42 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - News)Manhattan, New York (CaymanMama.com) — The residents of SoHo are concerned about their safety as a man followed a 19-year old woman who was walking into a building apartment alone and raped her at around 3:30 am. This incident is the second attack of this type since April in SoHo.
According to the police, the woman was walking to her home from a subway station at SoHo when a man with box cutter attacked her when she arrived at the building of Prince Street. The man raped her, forcing the woman to the courtyard.The woman has been taken to the Bellevue for her treatment. It has been reported that the woman gave him a cigarette which he had asked for before attacking her. The man has been described as short and stocky, pock-marked face and wearing blue hat when the incident happened.
Similar incident includes an attack that was made on April 13 2008 to a 25 years old woman in her apartment at SoHo.
Debbie Shadwick who has lived in the SoHo neighborhood for more than 4 decades said that they used to feel secure while sitting out late at the night, but now the circumstances have changed and it is not that safe now, especially for women who are living alone.
