Paris: (AFP) In a process of rebuilding Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai, Afghanistan President, requested the donors to partly help with the $50 billion rebuilding plan. The donors led by the US promised $ 20 billion in aid but at the same time told the Afghan President to combat corruption.
Bush administrations suffers setback as Supreme Court grants Right of Appeal to Guantanamo prisoners
Washington: The Supreme Court rules on Thursday ruled that Guantanamo Bay prisoners have the constitutional right to challenge their detention. This ruling has once again marked a set back for the Bush Administration who have been pressing that such prisoners were enemies of the state and should not have right to appeal against their detention.
N. Korea used Japanese equipment in their nuclear enrichment plant
Tokyo: (AFP): Stunning discovery was made by the UN inspectors who found out that North Korea, arch enemy of Japan had used Japan made equipment and vacuum pumps in its nuclear enrichment plant. Tokyo based trading company “Tokyo Vacuum” had exported these without proper permission to a company in Taiwan.
Forced marriages in UK Muslim community taken up by British Muslim lawyers
London: (AFP) The issue of forced marriages in the Muslim community in Britain has led to issues of survival of Muslim youth in the UK. The panel of Muslim British Lawyers have set up Muslim Arbitration Tribunal that will grant the couple to the right to get married with South Asian spouses only after confirming that such marriage is been done without duress. Forced marriages in Muslim community have resulted in suicides and honor killing inside Britain.
Britain faced issues of high rising oil and food prices says Prime Minister Gordon Brown
London: Speaking to the newsmen at the 10 Downing Street, the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, said that as the demand exceeds supply the prices of food and oil have shot up and these are the basic problems faced by people in Britain. He said his country is well placed to face these problems as the economy of the country is strong.
