Los Angeles, California (CaymanMama.com) — Ann Hathaway and Steve Carell’s “Get Smart” has successfully raked in more than $39 million in its debut release while taking the number one position. “Get Smart” is a remake of the 1960’s spy drama. However, “The Love Guru” could not attract the public and ranked number four while making a mere $14 million at the box office. The earnings of “Kit Kittredge: An American Girl” were $222,697 while releasing in five theaters in comparison to “Get Smart” that made $10,012 while opening in 3911 theaters.

Picturehouse’s “Kit Kittredge: An American Girl” is a story about American dolls. The movie stars include Abigail Breslin who is a nine year old girl who aspires to become a newspaper reporter at the Depression. On July 2, “Kit Kittredge: An American Girl” will see its worldwide release. The number two slot at the box office was mutually shared by both “The Incredible Hulk” and “Kung Fu Panda.” That made more than $21 million while raising $155.6 million as a part of domestic total. On the other hand, “The Incredible Hulk” on second weekend made $21.6 million while making a total of $96.5 million. However, the final numbers of both “the Incredible Hulk” and “Kung Fu Panda” can change due to this week’s results.

Well, talking about the revenues of Hollywood, in comparison to last year, the revenues of Hollywood raises for straight fourth weekend. The top 10 movies successfully made over $136.9 million; more than 10% of the last year when “Evan Almighty” was number one movie while raking the profits of $31.2 million. It seems that Hollywood is planning to break the previous records while the receipts are topping around $4 billion.

According to Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media by Numbers, “While the country may be suffering with a so-called recession, people are finding movies a fairly inexpensive way to get their entertainment.” He continued, “This proves the conventional wisdom that, during tough economic times, the movies flourish.”
