Los Angeles, California (CaymanMama.com) — Imagine an adult wearing a diaper and finding it hard enough to stand and is asked to pass obstacles such as carrying milk pitchers without spilling it. Another person is wearing an insect dress while throwing him onto a windshield that too with a splat. Is Japanese TV going crazy? For such TV series, the answer is plain NO as American TV is taking on popular Japanese shows.

Japanese shows have high popularity on You Tube with game shows like “Endurance”, “Human Tetris” and “Hole in the Wall.” However, US series might not be the exact copy of Japanese shows but one can say it an imitation that is being showed on US prime time shows. With ABC’s “I Survived A Japanese Game Show” an d “Wipeout” along with Fox’s domesticated version of “Hole in the Wall.”

According to Tony Sano, the host of “I Survived”, “It’s going to be like nothing that American audiences have ever seen on network television.” It is a fact that American TV has been accustomed to shows like “Deal or No Deal”, “Jeopardy!” and “The Price is Right” but with the new Japanese inspired shows, it will be a different ball game all together. According to Stuart Krasnow, executive producer for ‘Hole in the Wall’, “There is a great desire to shock over there. Ironically, we’re more puritan over here. But the Japanese will shock to any extreme.”

For Arthur Smith, executive producer of “I Survived” these shows are physically challenging. He said, “We watched hundreds of hours of Japanese shows and looked for all of the consistent themes, whether it’s being dizzy, use of treadmills, falling into water. We took those elements and then designed new games around them.” Well, let’s see how things shape up for American TV shows.
