Nashville, Tennessee (CaymanMama.com) — Today, country singer John Hiatt is a calm and content man living with his wife. With grown up kids, the silence in the house makes the couple feel like newlyweds. Hiatt says, “We’re like all romantic again after 22 years and its new territory.” This gives us a sneak peak into Hiatt’s new album “Same Old Man” which was recorded at home amidst the shady lanes and fields of hay.

Saying that the music is mature is indeed an understatement as it is an album about middle-age love that cherishes a durable relationship. Hiatt says, “When we got married we each had a kid, so we never had a time together when we didn’t have kids. Now we’re the kids.” Hiatt is a father of three grown up children aged 30, 24 and 20. Hiatt not only recorded the album at home, he also produced it for the very first time.

He said, “I felt like it was time for me to take all the responsibility for a change. I think I knew what I wanted to hear. At least I had an approach I wanted to try. And I didn’t want to share that. I didn’t want somebody else’s ideas on top of that.” It is an uncluttered record that uses guitar, drums and bass along with the craggy voice of John Hiatt.

Hiatt is doing what he has always done: creating music about his life and people around it. Hiatt was addicted to drugs in the 70s and 80s and according to him, he was “mentally, physically, morally and spiritually bankrupt.” He added, “I’d reached that point where I couldn’t get sober. I didn’t know how to get sober and it had stopped working, the drugs and alcohol. In a way they didn’t work anymore. It was just miserable. You were trapped. You didn’t have any choice except to keep doing it.”

However, Hiatt came back strongly with a new wave of folk rock to appeal to a newer audience who can feel the songs he strums from his guitar.
