Will Smith’s “Hancock” arrives with a bang
2008-07-02 16:13:13 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - Entertainment News)Hollywood, California (CaymanMama.com) — Will Smith’s new movie “Hancock” offers spectacular train wrecks stunts. The very first mind-boggling stunt happens when Jason Bateman’s character, PR Ray, is seated in his car and is caught unaware by an approaching locomotive. It is John Hancock who saves him with his Superman-like powers flipping Ray’s car with a backward somersault without harming anyone in the process. At the same time, Hancock thrusts his arm out and stops the fast approaching train. Ray is grateful to Hancock as the impact of the train leads to damage that extends more than half a mile but leaves him unscathed.
As we all know, it is Will Smith who owns the box office this weekend with no other blockbuster releases other than “Kittredge: An American Girl.” Ever since the release of “Independence Day,” Will Smith has become synonymous with big releases and money at the box office.
With “Hancock,” viewers meet immortal who feels no pain while safeguarding the interest of Los Angeles citizens; the hero, however, struggles with alcohol. In the opening scene of the movie, when a young child asks him to chase bad guys, “Hancock” who is in inebriated state sends him back while insulting him with a “What do you want, a cookie?”
This summer has been a treat for action hero lovers with “The Incredible Hulk” and “Ironman.” However, in comparison to these movies, Hancock is not the typical superhero. Hancock is a cynical superhero who has reckless heroism that may inspire funny situations. Hancock is seen cussing on a high while chasing goons. In “Hancock,” Will Smith makes a powerful performance where Jason Bateman is a comic foil. Hancock has alienated authorities with his own problem solving techniques. Ray, who owes his life to Hancock, asks him to surrender and looks forward to solving anger management and alcohol issues.
