Can Heath Ledger be the second actor to get an Oscar after death?
2008-07-03 15:53:16 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - Entertainment News)Los Angeles, California (CaymanMama.com) — Anybody who has watched the promo of the Batman action flick, “The Dark Knight”, is bound to rave over the performance of late actor Heath Ledger as the villain, Joker. He is being compared to the iconic screen villains like Randle McMurphy, the dark and lawless villain played by the reputed Jack Nicholson.
The performance of Heath Ledger far exceeds the extraordinary work of the legendary actor Jack Nicholson, whose performance as the Joker in this movie was also quite exemplary. Christian Bale, who is reprising his role as the atrocious crime fighter Batman in the movie, has also praised Ledger’s performance.
Bale says that the movie is a celebration of Ledger’s talent, who died on January 22 after an overdose of sleeping pills. Heath was just 28-years old when he died and “The Dark Knight” was his last completed film. If everything goes well, Ledger could be the seventh actor in the history of Oscars to receive a nomination after death. Christian Bale said that the way Heath played the legendary villain will be remembered for ages and he would be delighted if Ledger wins the Oscar.
Generally, superhero flicks are not in the line of Oscar nominations, but Ledger’s performance in the movie far exceeded the expectations of critics and fans alike. Undoubtedly, he stands to be the second performer in the history of Hollywood to lap up an Oscar post-death. Gary Oldman, who also played a pivotal role of the dignified police officer Jim Gordon, is also expecting Ledger to be awarded an Oscar for his performance. He also said that Ledger might be the first actor after Peter Finch to get an Oscar after his demise. The movie “Dark Knight” hits US theaters on July 18.
