Rusutsu: (AP): The US, Germany, France, Japan, Canada, Russia and Italy along with leaders of African countries and China have gathered in the northern Japanese resort of Toyako. The G8 summit this year will be clouded with pressing issues of food shortages, rising fuel prices, environmental issues and on developing more committed plans to fight poverty and hunger.

600 meter long tunnel used for smuggling unearthed in Hong Kong

Hong Kong: The agencies of discovered a 600 meter long tunnel used for smuggling of electronic goods from China to Hong Kong. The tunnel that is 6 inches in diameter has been used in smuggling of computer accessories, mobile phones, hard disks and other electronic items. According to the authorities the tunnel could have been used to smuggle goods worth 10 milling Hong Kong dollars each night. 12 people have been arrested.

Iraqi debt of US$ 7 billion weaved by UAE

Abu Dhabi (AFP): The WAM news agency official confirmed yesterday that the President of UAE has waived of the loan of US$ 7 billion owed by Iraq has been waived off. The President also named Abdullah Ibrahim al-Shehhi as UAE’s ambassador to Baghdad yesterday.

Chittagong (AFP): Over 20 people have died and over 20,000 rendered homeless as heavy seasonal rains lash southeast Bangladesh. The heavy rains caused landslides and floods resulting in deaths by drowning, land shifting and displacement of many in this part of the poverty stricken country.
