Koppel investigates China
2008-07-07 15:25:41 (GMT) (Caymanmama.com - Entertainment News)El Paso, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — In his four-part documentary for the Discovery Channel, renowned reporter Ted Koppel’s new series “The People’s Republic of Capitalism”, which premiers at 10 PM on Wednesday, focuses on the dramatic rise of China from a city that features huge skyscrapers which were literally non-existent only a few decades ago.
The series shows that the economic interest of both China and the USA are intertwined. A woman at the plant of Briggs and Stratton in Missouri is looking for new job contrasting to the thriving image of China. The series showcases an Ethan Allen sofa that is assembled in China but upholstered in the USA and is further purchased by a rich Chinese couple. According to the Associated Press, Koppel stated, “You may not think you care much about what is happening in China. Let me tell you, what happens over there is going to make quite a difference with what is going to happen over here.”
The changes in the auto industry show the complexity of the overall situation as China manufactures 25,000 vehicles per day. It seems that China is on a 4-road building spree somewhat similar to what happened in the USA during the administration of Eisenhower. In the last year, China saw the sale of more Buicks in comparison to USA. Ford also saw an increase in sales with 30%. Chinese automobile makers are looking forward to export their cars to the foreign markets, especially the US. It is estimated that by the end of 2030, China will have more vehicles on road in comparison than US. With soaring gas prices, one has to wait and watch to see what happens next.
