Obama to focus on Afghanistan and Pakistan, end war in Iraq

Washington: Barack Obama, yesterday slashed Bush administration policy of focusing singly on Iraq. He said more concentration should be fixed on Pakistan and Afghanistan border situation from where the threat of next big terrorist attack might come. He also stressed on the need of calling troops back from Iraq and starting a meaningful dialog with Iran.

Prisoner swap between Israel and Iraq today

Beirut: In their eighth prisoner swap since 1991, Israel and Hezbollah will be exchanging prisoners today. Two dead Israeli soldiers will be exchanged by captured Hezoballah fighters. Israel will also send back bodies of 199 Palestinian and Hezoballah fighters that were exhumed last week.

Ahmadinejad hints on possibility of talks with US in near future

Tehran: The Iranian News Agnecy, IRNA reported quoting the President of the country “It is possible that in the near future talks in different fields will take place with the US.” The US had severed terms with Iran due to Islamic Revolution in the country back in 1980. The ties between Iran and the US since than are not cordial. Iran’s nuclear program has created more controversies and the US has repeatedly threatened Iran and is forcing the country to cut its nuclear enrichment programs. The President also said that “If the US wants talks with Iran in fair conditions we welcome that. Nobody, so far, has rejected that.”

Russia offered arms deal by Saudi Arabia in return of severing ties with Iran

Moscow: The Russian news agency reported that the meeting that was held between the Saudi Prince Bandir bin Sultan, the Russian President and the Prime Minister of the country in which the Saudi Prince offered Russian lucrative arms deal. Russian in return would have to sever its co-operation with Iran.

The Russian sources however, refuse to confirm such proposal by saying “Military-technical cooperation between Russia and Saudi Arabia has an independent dimension. The Russian government spokesman also said “It is founded on mutual interest and to tie this dimension of cooperation between Russia and Saudi Arabia with any other questions is absolutely not right and not proper.”

First President of Nepal by July 19, 2008

Kathmandu: Since May 28, 2008 Nepal has been without proper government. The newly elected parliament of Nepal after ending the 240 years old monarchy will not be electing Nepal’s first President on July 19, 2008.
