Unusual Nato troops movement on Pakistan - Afghanistan border
Peshawar: The tribal areas saw unusual movement of Nato troops alongside Pakistan and Afghanistan border. The troops descended though helicopters and took position in North Waziristan agency. They carried heavy artillery which included heavy machine guns and tanks. The positioning of foreign military alongside the tribal areas have created a panic like situation on the border areas.
Recommendation of Economic advisory council not to be implemented
Islamabad: The government has decided not to implement the recommendation by the ECC for revenue enhancement. The decision of imposing capital gain tax on equities and real estate, imposing regulatory duty on non essential imports and builder charge except excise duty on mobile phone calls would have to be abolished by the government. The decision to do away with imposition of taxes would force government to loose Rs.15.6 billion in terms of revenue. The uncertainty on the political front and with the failing economy PPP led government has been forced to make such decisions to provide comfort to the business community.
First IT park to be set up in Islamabad
Karachi: First, IT park deal signed between Pakistan Export Software Board and an International consortium of Technopolis PLC, Finland and TelcoNet, Axor Group, Inc. Canada to set up a state of art national IT part on BOT basis in Islamabad.
The board issued letter of intent to the consortium. The IT park will be built on 14.9 acreas of land in Chak Shahzad, Islamabad.
Lawyers chalk out new strategy to pressurize the government for reinstatement of judges
Islamabad: The leaders of the lawyers movement have decided to stage sit-in, blocking major roads of the country. Their movement will start from Thursday in which the lawyers will be blocking some main entry and exit road that interlink the cities. According to their spokesman, the movement may gain momentum if their demand for restoration of deposed judiciary is not met by the government.
217 points decline in stocks trading at Karachi Stock Exchange
Karachi: An other dull trading day was witnessed at the Karachi Stock Exchange where the KSE-100 index touched 17 months low. The KSE-100 index lost 217.44 points leaving the index at 10,959.87 points.
