San Diego, California (CaymanMama.com) — A new report shows that kids in the age group from nine to ten years partake in two hours of physical activity every day. However, this number dramatically drops to less than the recommended level of physical activity when the kids enter their teen years.

Researchers have reported that between the age of nine to eleven, the majority of the children meet the recommended time of 60 minutes of moderate to hardcore physical exertion daily. Just 30% of kids at the age of fourteen to fifteen meet the recommended guidelines on the weekdays and only 16% meet the target on the weekends.

Dr. Philip R. Nader of the University of San Diego piloted the research. In addition, the study examined the various patterns of physical exercise in more than a thousand kids aged nine to fifteen years of age. The children were fitted with an accelerometer which measured physical actions by the minute for more than a week.

It was reported that the level of physical activities in girls diminished at an earlier stage as compared to boys. The girls dropped off below the target of one to two hours of exercise on weekdays on an average age of 13.1, whereas the boys did not cross that verge until the age of 14.7.

According to researchers, if the level of the physical activity deteriorates in the teen years, the child might continue to follow that trend in their adulthood. The study noted that research should be executed in order to determine the cause of decline in the level of physical activities as kids enter their teens. It is certain that kids spend the majority of their time in front of the television, playing video games and sitting at the computer.
