Trade Policy for the year 2008 -09 - export target set at $22.10 billion

Islamabad: Announcing the trade policy for the year 2008-09 year the Commerce Minister Ahmad Mukhtar offered various incentives for traditional products. While setting up at huge target of $22.20 billion for exports the commerce minister urged reactivation of Federal Export Promotion Board and renewal of TDAP ordinance. He also hinted on liberalizing imports from India.

Frontier crimes Regulation (FCR) to be amended with 4 to 6 months

Islamabad: On Friday, government of Pakistan announced its decision of amending the FCR and reducing the powers of political agents in Fata aiming to bring the tribal areas people to the national mainstream.

Militants kill 3 men on suspicion of being US spies

Wana: Bodies of 3 dead men were found yesterday with a note in local language on their chests saying “were US spies”. No one has as yet claimed the responsibility of killing them. The unidentified dead men were buried local graveyard.

PPP does not have 2/3 majority to reinstate deposed judges - says Aitzaz - Reject PPP package

Lahore: Rejecting the reinstatement package for deposed judges, Aitzaz Ahsan, President of Supreme Court Bar Association, while speaking to Lahore High Court Bar Association said that the lawyers and the deposed judges do not accept the package offered by PPP. He said reinstatement of judiciary under such package would mean endorsing Musharraf’s unconstitutional acts. He further said that PPP would not be able to reinstate the deposed judges as it would not have support 2/3 majority in the senate.

Some improvement seen in Karachi Stock Exchange

Karachi: Karachi Stock Exchange showed a positive movement in its trading session yesterday. The market gained 21.86 points bringing the index to 10,234.78 points. During the days trading session market rose to 419 points but settled with a modest gain os 21.86 points at the end of the day.
