As reported by Warner Bros. Pictures, the new Batman movie has sold approximately $155.3 million in ticket sales during the first few days of its release across Canada and the United States. The hotly projected movie starring the late Heath Ledger exceeded the $151.1 million heave for Spider Man 3 within the same time frame of the first weekend in 2007.
The caped crusader had also gained $40 million from 20 different foreign markets. According to the tracking firm of Media By Numbers, The Dark Knight has propelled the overall ticket sales of North America to an approximate record of $253 million with help from the new release of Mamma Mia, which opened the box office at the No. 2 position with $27.6 million in sales. The company also reported that the film may exceed its own record of $218 million that was set earlier.
The Dark Knight features Christian Bale as Batman and the film is directed by Christopher Nolan. The two had earlier collaborated on Batman Begins which earned a record of $48.7 million during the first weekend in 2005 and ended up with around $205 million. According to Warner Bros., The Dark Knight should also be able to hit the similar level by the midweek of its release.
